Roland-Garros 2023 – Ladies’ singles – 2nd round – Diane Parry swept away by the young Mirra Andreeva

Parry did not see the light of day

Fallen from Rome finalist Anhelina Kalinina in the 1st round, Diane Parry hoped to open up the table to do at least as well as last year, when she reached the 16th finals. But the French received a correction on Thursday against the immense and precocious talent from Russia, Mirra Andreeva. At just 16 years old, the latter has everything of a future great. She was in any case far too strong for Parry, dispatched 6-1, 6-2 in 1h17 of play.

Constantly in difficulty in the service – she conceded five breaks in total – and far too friable in the exchange, the Niçoise only experienced a very small upturn at the start of the second set. Broken from the start, Diane Parry took her opponent’s serve on a shutout before winning her face-off in stride to lead 2-1. Something to wake up the public at the Simmone-Matieu court a little, but it didn’t last. Very much above, Andreeva put her foot back on the accelerator to win the last five games of the match.
