Road Traffic: Why Men Drive More Aggressively Than Women – Reise

Interviewed by

Hans Gasser

The figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority speak for themselves: When it comes to road traffic offences, men are far ahead of women. They commit about 78 percent of all speeding violations, 82 percent of distance offenses and even 87 percent of drink-driving offenses. They are also clearly ahead of women when it comes to running red lights and using a mobile phone. The traffic psychologist Jens Schade, who teaches and researches at the TU Dresden, explains why this is the case, whether only the much-used testosterone is to blame and how traffic behavior has changed in recent years.
