Homes are again struggling with corona outbreaks more frequently, and the number of facilities reported to the RKI rose sharply within a week. Among other things, the institute expects more hospital admissions.
The number of corona outbreaks in old people’s and nursing homes is increasing again significantly. Last week, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 235 facilities in which there was at least one new case, according to the RKI’s new weekly report. In the previous week there were 192 homes.
People over 80 are also those who continue to struggle most frequently with severe courses: According to the RKI, around 25 per 100,000 inhabitants are hospitalized with a Covid infection within a week, while this value across all age groups is only 3.7 lies.
RKI expects more hospital admissions
The infection pressure also remains high for the general population – and with it the burden on the healthcare system. For the past week, the RKI estimates that between 800,000 and 1.3 million people suffered from an active corona infection. Significantly more people are currently going to the doctor for respiratory diseases than is usual at this time of year. The RKI therefore continues to expect more severe courses, more admissions to clinics and more deaths. The number of corona patients in intensive care units is also increasing.
The current seven-day incidence is given by the RKI as 720.4 – the actual value is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are no longer recorded. The RKI has counted 29.46 million corona infections nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. But here, too, the actual number is likely to be significantly higher.
