For their film “The Last Duel” Matt Damon and Ben Affleck took the reins and hired Ridley Scott to direct.

Ridley Scott (83) directed blockbusters such as “Alien” (2003), “Blade Runner” (1982) and “Gladiator” (2000). Usually he is also involved in the acting casting for his films. For his new film “The Last Duel”, however, the roles were reversed: The main actors and screenwriters Matt Damon (51) and Ben Affleck (49) cast Scott this time, and not the other way around.

Ridley Scott: “I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea”

“The two chose me to direct their script,” said the 83-year-old in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “I still remember my first conversation with Matt Damon when he offered me this film. He briefly explained to me what the story should be about. I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea,” emphasized the Briton.

The script was “exceptionally well written” and therefore made his work on the set “a lot easier”. Therefore he was “very respectful” with the script.

Historical drama from the Middle Ages

“The Last Duel” is a period film set in 14th century France. Matt Damon, Adam Driver (37), Jodie Comer (28) and Ben Affleck can be seen in the leading roles. The focus is on a duel between Knight Jean de Carrouges (Damon) and Squire Jacques Le Gris (Driver). The strip starts in German cinemas on October 14th.
