Review: “Europe flees to Europe” at the Munich Volkstheater – Munich

Zeus once abducted the Phoenician king’s daughter Europa in the form of a bull. He swam with her across the sea to Crete. As compensation, he promised that the continent on which she lives would be named after her. More than two millennia of history lie between this ancient founding myth and today. When told, it fills libraries, shortens an evening at the theatre. That’s kind of like a three-minute version of “Lord of the Rings”, only more condensed. The Austrian author Miru Miroslava Svolikova attempted this in her 2018 play “Europe flees to Europe”. She was invited to the Author Theater Days in Berlin. Director Anna Marboe has now set up the text at the Volkstheater. A feat of lightness.
