Resumption of negotiations to upgrade teachers, skeptical unions

At a time when thousands of teachers are marching against the pension reform, consultations on the revaluation of the profession resumed on Wednesday at the Ministry of National Education. The social partners, invited to rue de Grenelle, expressed their doubts about the outcome of the discussions, scheduled for March 13. “Since October, on a marathon, we may have advanced 500 meters,” laments the secretary general of Snes-FSU.

After a first phase in the fall to “share an inventory”, interrupted in mid-November by the professional elections, the Minister of National Education Pap Ndiaye “opened today, in the presence of all the organizations representative trade unions, a new phase of consultation on the attractiveness and revaluation of the teaching profession, “said the ministry in a press release.

Unions skeptical of the established schedule

“The consultations on the details of the measures are starting today. This phase will be as broad as possible”, added rue de Grenelle, specifying that “the objective is to conclude the consultation in March”.

According to the schedule presented to the unions, a first meeting will take place next week on the “base” part of the revaluation (concerning the greatest number of teachers), before a consultation at the beginning of February on the part of the increase linked to new assignments.

As soon as the meeting was over, the FSU, the leading teacher union federation, expressed its disappointment. “Nine months after the promises of the President of the Republic, eight months after taking office, four months after the start of discussions on the subject, still no progress on the question of salaries after the meeting led by the Minister today! “, lamented the federation in a press release. For Sophie Vénétitay, secretary general of Snes-FSU, the first secondary school union, “the ministry will have to show its cards very quickly and we can get to the heart of the matter”.
