Residents of a ski resort vote to stop the activity

The municipality will dismantle the five ski lifts, including a four-seater chairlift, and snow cannons which supply nearly five kilometers of slopes and hopes to resell its installations for an amount of 600,000 euros.

The town hall, which voted at the municipal council meeting on July 22 to stop this activity with 12 votes for and 2 against, however wanted to hear the opinion of its population.

For the town, the end of alpine skiing sounds like a relief for its finances: The resort posted losses of 350,000 euros per year, explained the mayor to France Infospecifying that over the past ten years, turnover has fallen by 60%, going from 17,000 to 6,000 skier days.
