Researchers discover unknown Roman military camps on Google Earth

Archaeologists no longer look for artifacts from ancient times on site alone. British researchers have now made a groundbreaking discovery with the help of satellite images on Google Earth. Jordan delights archaeologists with many remains from the Roman Empire. Scientists have now discovered a 125 × 105 m rectangular structure on satellite images that may have an impact on future history books. The structure is typical of Roman military camps. After further searching, researchers from the University of Cambridge found two other similar fortresses in the vicinity of the first camp. The find suggests that the Romans may have annexed the Nabatean kingdom with a major military invasion. In 106, the empire that was based in the rock city of Petra was incorporated into the Roman Empire. Previous historiography speaks of a non-violent seizure of power. The new finds may contradict this, but more research is needed.
