After promotion, those responsible for the Royal Blues decided not to extend Martin Fraisl’s contract and to sign a new number one for the Bundesliga. Among other things, names like Stefan Ortega and Finn Dahmen were traded – but in the end the choice fell on Alexander Schwolow, who was not undisputed at Hertha BSC.
Due to the financial bottlenecks, both clubs agreed on a loan deal, a subsequent purchase option or obligation for FC Schalke was not agreed. Schwolow even gave up salary in order to be able to play in the foreground again at S04. However, this plan didn’t work out.
