Rennes snatches victory but loses Terrier – Dbrief and NOTES of the players (SRFC 2-1 Nice)

Winner on the wire of Nice (2-1) this Monday, Rennes doubles Monaco the 4th place but trembles for Terrier for whom a serious injury is feared.

Bourigeaud released Rennes on the gong.

Four days after its surprise defeat Reims (1-3), Rennes suffered, but the SRFC proved that it has resources by logically snatching the victory against Nice (2-1) this Monday at the end of the 17th day of League 1.

This success allows the Bretons to move up to 4th place in the ranking, the Gym, which has resisted for a long time, is 11th and far from Europe. But the exit of Terrier, evacuated on a stretcher and for whom we fear a serious injury to the cruciate ligaments, somewhat spoiled the party…

Rennes scores, Barkley responds

From the start, Bruno Genesio’s men took advantage of a sleepy Azure defense to open the scoring through Terrier at the far post following a good heel from Gouiri (1-0, 6th). Enough to wake up the Aiglons who were trying to react and Barkley unleashed a sudden strike that Mandanda deflected on the bar!

The two teams discovered each other a lot and it was paradoxically during this strong opposition moment that the SRFC came close to 2-0 but Terrier’s goal was refused by the VAR due to a prior offside by Gouiri. The turning point of this start to the game, because Barkley equalized a few moments later on a superb teleguided shot from outside the area (1-1, 21st).

Burrow, the tile…

The match was balanced, with Niois more present in the duels, but it was again the Rennais who had a great opportunity, not converted by Bourigeaud at the far post. The exit on a stretcher from Terrier, uttering unbearable cries of pain, calmed the enthusiasm a little but the locals tried again to push before the break, in vain.

Bourigeaud as a liberator

The pressure from Rennes grew even more after returning from the locker room with a succession of hot situations in the Côte d’Azur area. But Majer crossed his shot too much, Bourigeaud did not fit his head and Thuram saved the furniture in front of Doku. Long one-way and punctuated by the waves of Brittany, this second act was balanced at the end with a knockout atmosphere and a match that gave the impression of being able to change at any time. While Thuram missed the heist of the head, Bourigeaud finally snatched the victory (2-1, 89th). No flight!

The score of the match: 5.5/10

In a cheerful atmosphere, we were treated to a first half-hour of madness with two playful teams. On the other hand, the exit of Terrier contributed to closing the match and the second period, one way, turned out to be a little less pleasant with very defensive Niois. Despite everything, the twists and turns scenario turned out to be appreciable.

The goals :

– Right side, Bourigeaud performs a center in the area, where Gouiri recovers from a heel to Kalimuendo. Dante against the ball towards the far post where Terrier emerges and shoots Schmeichel (1-0, 6th).

– Following a touch, Lotomba serves Barkley. In front of the area, off center on the right, the Englishman fixes Majer and unleashes a floating shot that will deceive Mandanda flush with the first post (1-1, 21st).

– Left side, Gouiri serves Tait who eliminates Dante to serve Bourigeaud who concludes with a cross recovery at the far post (2-1, 89th).

Players’ NOTES

Maxifoot has assigned a score (out of 10) comments on each player.

Man of the match: Benjamin Bourigeaud (8/10)

Disappointing for a long time in the first part of the season, the attacking midfielder showed a regained form! At the origin of the first goal with his center and author of the second, the Rennais carried his team with his luminous passes and an omnipresence in the game but also in the opposing area. Success first fled him in the last gesture, then he was rewarded at the end.

REINDEER :

Steve Mandanda (6): little asked, the goalkeeper had the merit of staying focused in his game. The Habs deflected a 1-0 Barkley missile on the bar and then defeated Diop at the end of the game. Difficult to incriminate him on Barkley’s goal from elsewhere.

Hamari Traor (6.5): aggressive in the good sense of the term, the Rennes captain hurt the Niois in the duels. The right side was also sharp on its projections to bring the surplus.

Christopher Wooh (4.5): back, the central defender was not completely convinced and he sometimes had trouble winning in duels.

Arthur Theate (6): a solid game from the central defender. Dominating, especially in the aerial field, the Belgian did not hesitate to project himself, and he misses the frame of a nothing on a head in the second period.

Birger Meling (5): a very average part for the left side, less prominent than Traor and whose offensive contribution will have been limited despite the domination of his team. Replace the 72nd minute with Adrien Truffert (not not).

Benjamin Bourigeaud (8): read the comment above.

Xeka (5): a serious match for the midfielder, who fought well in midfield to establish his team’s dominance.

Lovro Majer (4.5): a little frozen on Barkley’s goal, the midfielder generally had to create and lacked commitment in the duels. Replace the 72nd minute with Flavien Tait (not not)decisive passer for Bourigeaud.

Amine Gouiri (6.5): against his former club, the striker seemed completely overmotivated. Author of an inspired heel on the first goal, the Rennais also puts himself in evidence on the second but he is signaled offside. In sight in the game, he however stumbles twice on Schmeichel. More discreet in the second period but still involved on the 2nd goal.

Arnaud Kalimuendo (5.5): a little less prominent than his offensive comprehensions, the striker still moved intelligently and he often played shots in the box with accuracy. Replace the 84th minute with Kamaldeen Sulemana (not not).

Martin Terrier (7): author of the opener in foxing the surfaces, the striker was in all the good moves and only the VAR deprived him of the double. Unfortunately, his terrible knee injury came to mow him down in full lan and raises fears of the worst. Replace the 36th minute with Jrmy Doku (5)stirring intermittently and checked by Thuram on his best opportunity.

NICE :

Kasper Schmeichel (5): dropped by his defense on the two goals conceded, the Dane twice delayed his chance against Gouiri. In vain.

Jean-Clair Todibo (6.5): despite the two goals conceded, the central defender delivered a game of boss and the former Barcelonan saved the day at the Gym several times thanks to his sharp interventions in the box. Before finally cracking.

Dante (4): valuable overall, the central defender has however reached his age in certain actions and the Niois captain thus finds himself involved in the two goals conceded… Unfortunate counterattacks and a loss of the ball which almost cost him on the goal conceded.

Pablo Rosario (4.5): an average part for the central defender, who did not really blame himself but who was more discreet than his partners.

Jordan Lotomba (5.5): very active and restless, the right side will have been one of the most prominent Niois in the first period and he contributed to the defensive efforts afterwards. Implicated in spite of himself on Terrier’s injury.

Mario Lemina (5): the midfielder gave a decent performance from a defensive point of view. The Gabonese on the other hand lacked accuracy in the use of the ball. Replace the 67th minute with Billal Brahimi (not not).

Khphren Thuram-Ulien (5.5): first inside, the midfielder grew in power over the course of the game. In the second period, the Aiglon thus signaled itself with several comebacks in defense, in particular in front of Doku, and a few breakthroughs.

Melvin Bard (4): game too discreet on the part of the left side who did not show much offensively and suffered the rises of Traor.

Nicolas Pp (3): on fire Thursday against Lens (0-0) and very successful in recent weeks, the winger was not having a good evening. Difficult to remember a significant action on his part.

Gatan Laborde (3): back on his land, the striker had a particularly difficult evening. Weaned from balls and isolated due to his team’s very defensive play, the former Rennais was forced to drop out to try to exist. Without success, and this time he did not manage to slip the kind of good balls of which he has the secret.

Ross Barkley (6): quite a strange match from the winger. Once again, the Englishman didn’t show much in the game and he appeared quite isolated. But the rookie has a hell of a shot and, if Mandanda was able to repel his first attempt, on the other hand his second shot, coming from elsewhere, almost allowed Nice to clinch an almost unexpected draw. Replace the 66th minute with Sofiane Diop (not not).
