Renaming the Bismarck-Room and the Prussian Foundation is not everything – culture

from

Joachim Kaeppner

When a really clever person like the journalist Alan Posener suddenly writes that Germany “should ask itself what it can learn from Prussia and what Prussia can also teach the rest of the world”. Serious? When Claudia Roth, the Green Minister of State for Culture, is described by the historian Hubertus Knabe as frighteningly “lack of history” because she wants to give the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation a somewhat more modern name. When a spokesman for the Bismarck family accuses Annalena Baerbock of “having no historical awareness of Germany.” And when the habitual grumbler Helmut Markwort even accuses the Green foreign minister of “subsequently manipulating and rewriting the history and culture of our country,” then you know: It’s Prussian time again.
