Rémi Salomon (AP-HP) sees “three or four difficult months to pass”

“We are entering a period of risk”: the president of the medical commission of the Hospitals of Paris, Rémi Salomon, estimated Thursday that we were approaching “a period of three or four months difficult to pass” because of the gradual relaxation of measures restriction.

“We are not immune” from a rebound in the Covid-19 epidemic, insisted Rémi Salomon, guest of BFMTV and RMC. “The relaxation of the restriction measures will result in a recirculation of the virus, everything will depend on the extent of this recirculation,” he added. “If you vaccinate a lot, you can spend the summer without a fourth wave”, wants to believe the doctor, who was speaking for the first time without a mask on a television set. Rémi Salomon recalled that “hospitals are still very saturated with Covid patients” despite the drop in the number of positive cases recorded daily in France. “In Île-de-France, we are at 120% occupancy of resuscitation beds,” he said.

Encourage people “to be outdoors as much as possible”

The reopening of the terraces planned for May 19 will be “ultimately beneficial”, hoped the doctor, because “we contaminate ourselves very little outside”. “I am making a suggestion is that from the evening we make the streets where there are a lot of cafes pedestrian”, proposed Professor Salomon, in order to be able to put a certain distance between the tables. He also recommended keeping the mask on even outdoors and only removing it “to eat or drink”. “Considering what I told you, the curfew at 9 p.m. is not a problem, if you’re outside,” he said, even wishing to see it pass at 11 p.m. as soon as possible – that is, is scheduled to start on June 9 – to encourage people to “be outdoors as much as possible”.

Finally, the health pass “will provide a little security when the crowds meet,” said the chairman of the medical commission of the AP-HP, who considers “quite logical” to make it mandatory during important gatherings.
