No surprises in Liège. Main favorite of the race, Tadej Pogacar dominated the competition on Sunday April 21 to win his second Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Setting off on the Côte de la Redoute about 35 kilometers from the finish, he was never seen again by the other runners, continually widening the gap until it was almost two minutes. The Slovenian thus brings his number of Monuments won to six.

The surprise came behind him with Romain Bardet’s second place. The best climber of the 2019 Tour de France broke away on the descent of the Redoute with Ben Healy and two other tricolors: Romain Grégoire and Benoît Cosnefroy. It was finally in the Roche-aux-Faucons, the last difficulty of the day that the native of Brioude (Haute-Loire) made the difference and managed to maintain his lead to offer himself a second podium on the Doyenne of the classics after his third place in 2018.
