Rejections: It’s not that easy – Politics

The number of refugees coming to Germany must be effectively limited: that is the overarching political goal these days. There is a lot to discuss, for example how to get the ailing European distribution mechanism back on track and how to get unwilling states to take back refugees. But the CDU and CSU have now set a tone that is not intended to sound like lengthy negotiations, but rather like decisive action. They are calling for rejections at the border, as if Germany were suddenly free of all the European and human rights obligations that it has signed itself. And what can we say: the traffic light coalition – initially sceptical for good reasons – is talking to the Union about a plan that “conforms to European law” and should ultimately make rejections possible.
