The match of the first day of Ligue 1 on Saturday between Reims and Lille was interrupted for a long time on Saturday following the injury of Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, hit in the head and treated on the field for about twenty minutes before being evacuated.
In the 11th minute, the 23-year-old English player was the victim of a head-to-head collision during an aerial duel with Reims midfielder Amadou Koné.
Evacuated to hospital, the player is conscious
Players from both teams quickly surrounded Gomes, who remained on the ground, before the emergency services intervened. The Lille player was evacuated on a stretcher some 25 minutes after the collision, to the cheers of the Auguste-Delaune stadium. The opposing supporters also chanted his name.
“Angel Gomes has been evacuated by the firefighters. All our thoughts are with him,” said Losc on its X account. The northern club also indicated that “Angel Gomes regains consciousness and was evacuated to hospital.” Koné was sent off by the referee. The match resumed after more than 30 minutes of interruption.
