Regensburg: The SPD should have terminated the coalition earlier. A comment – Bavaria

Regensburg’s Social Democrats are ending their coalition with the CSU in the town hall. The move is long overdue; the SPD has been drifting for far too long. But now they are facing other difficulties.

Now the SPD has dared to do it. The Social Democrats are leaving the Regensburg coalition, and their mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer no longer has a stable majority behind her in the city council. That doesn’t sound very exciting at first, but it isn’t. Having to forge new alliances again and again is tedious and can end in stagnation and chaos. And yet the step is more than understandable. After all, the situation wasn’t really stable before either.
