Within 48 hours, there are 15 rescue operations in the Mediterranean. A total of 623 people are being taken to safety, including numerous children and unaccompanied minors.

The Rescue Ship”According to SOS Méditerranée, Ocean Viking” has rescued more than 600 people “from unseaworthy small boats” in the Mediterranean Sea in 15 missions within 48 hours.

This was announced by the European aid organization on Friday evening on the online platform X, formerly Twitter. Most of the rescues took place on the route between Sfax in Tunisia and the Italian island of Lampedusa. They were coordinated by the Italian authorities.

According to SOS Méditerranée, a total of 623 people were rescued, including 15 children and 146 unaccompanied minors. These are people from Sudan, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Benin and Bangladesh.

According to the aid organization, the rescued were safe and were cared for on board the “Ocean Viking”. Some of the rescued were later to go ashore in Lampedusa, the rest were to be taken to Civitaveccia, north-west of Rome.

Again and again, boat migrants risk dangerous crossings to get to Europe. Sometimes there are devastating accidents.
