Referee hits player and gets 12-game suspension

The worthy heir to Tony Chapron exists, and he is Mexican. Fernando Hernandez Gomez, referee of the match counting for the closing tournament of the Mexican League and opposing America to Leon (2-2), distinguished himself by kneeling – discreet, but not enough – to a player as tempers flared between the two teams.

We rewind. In the 64th minute, the referee showed a yellow card against a defender of Leon. His Argentinian partner Lucas Romero, came as reinforcements to protest like a pig in the mouth of the referee, who, surrounded by players, ended up freaking out.

The Mexican referee was suspended for twelve games “for violent conduct against a player”, the disciplinary committee said after the incidents. But he wasn’t the only one. Romero was also suspended for two games for protesting too strongly after Colombian Stiven Barreiro was shown the yellow card.

Both teams’ Argentine coaches, Fernando Ortiz of América and Nicolás Larcamón of León, were also suspended for two games for “violent conduct”. Leon’s coach even had his t-shirt torn.
