Record heat confirmed for the year 2022, with an average temperature of 14.5 degrees

The year 2022 is indeed the hottest ever recorded in metropolitan France, with 14.5 degrees of average annual temperature, confirmed Friday Météo-France, which qualifies this record as a “symptom of climate change”.

“2022 ranks first” since the start of the readings in 1900, “very far ahead of 2020 which held the record until now”, with 14.07°C, specifies Météo France.

Very hot, 2022 will also have been “exceptional” in terms of drought, announced Friday Météo-France, which recorded a “record rainfall deficit” of some 25% since the start of the surveys in 1959.

This deficit, the precise figure of which is to be published later, is almost tied with that measured in 1989, specifies the meteorological institute which must confirm “at the end of the month” which of the two years is the driest.
