Lidl and Kaufland are carrying out an urgent recall: a chicken product contains an unlabeled ingredient. It can be dangerous for some people.

Kassel – When you’re in a hurry, they’re the perfect meal: ready meals. Just heat them up briefly in the microwave and you have a full lunch or dinner ready to eat. However, you shouldn’t resort to ready meals too often. They can be very harmful to your health. A ready meal from Lidl and Kaufland is also currently posing a health risk – but for a different reason. A major recall is underway.

Recall of ready meals at Lidl and Kaufland – contamination of chicken strips

This affects the dish “Chicken strips in mushroom cream sauce with spiral noodles” in the 400g pack. The manufacturer is “Allgäu Fresh Foods”. The recall applies to six batches with the best-before dates 07/27/24, 08/01/24 and 07/30/24. According to the manufacturer’s press release, the reason for the recall is a possible contamination of the product with sesame seeds.

The sesame may have gotten into the chicken strips during the supplier’s production process. The unlabeled ingredient could be dangerous for those who are allergic to sesame. According to the German Allergy and Asthma Association is one of the 14 main triggers of allergic reactions – for this reason it must be “clearly labelled” in food products.

Recall at Lidl and Kaufland: Unlabelled ingredient can cause anaphylactic shock

An allergic reaction to sesame can manifest itself with various symptoms. According to the portal allergyadvice.com Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes, stomach pain, coughing, hoarseness, itching in the throat and mouth, and redness and swelling of the face. There is also a risk of anaphylactic shock, which manifests itself in breathing problems, fainting, a rapid heartbeat and even cardiac arrest. Stomach pain and vomiting are also currently a risk when eating basil from Rewe.

Customers who have bought the contaminated ready meal are asked not to eat it and to dispose of it or return it to the store. The product was sold in Lidl and Kaufland food retailers across Germany. The purchase price will be refunded, even without presenting the receipt. However, those who are not allergic to sesame can eat the chicken strips without any concerns.

An urgent recall is also currently underway for another ready meal: Due to the risk of poisoning, the consumption of popular instant noodles is strongly advised against. (tt)
