Real estate in Munich: Citizens’ petitions against high-rise buildings – Munich

The question of how far new buildings can grow into the sky regularly causes controversy in Munich. Now a CSU and an SPD politician are taking it to the extreme: They want to start a referendum against high-rise buildings.

Stop the high-rise plans at the parcel post hall and no city-wide designation of zones in which high-rise buildings up to or over 80 meters may be built: With a referendum and a possible referendum, the CSU state parliament member Robert Brannekämper and the former SPD city councilor Wolfgang Czisch want a U-turn force in urban planning. To this end, they have founded an association called “Hochhausstopp”, as the two activists reported at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon in the state parliament’s restaurant. You see yourself in the tradition of the referendum of 2004, when a majority of Munich residents spoke out against allowing high-rise buildings of more than 100 meters and thus the height of the Frauenkirche.
