The ESC final on Saturday evening gave the first a solid TV rating. But the broadcaster was not able to match the previous viewing participation of the event.

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) was again disappointing for Germany on Saturday evening, but was a success in terms of quotas. On average, 7.45 million viewers watched the final from Liverpool from 9 p.m. on the first. The audience rating was 35.8 percent. In addition, there were 512,000 viewers (2.5 percent) on the ARD special-interest channel One. The total number thus added up to 7.96 million. They saw Germany’s ESC band Lord Of The Lost take last place. The Swedes, on the other hand, could celebrate with winner Loreen.

Last year, 7.3 million watched Erste and One together, and in 2021 it was 7.7 million for both channels. In 2019, 8.1 million watched, in 2018 there were also 7.9 million and in 2016 significantly more with 9.4 million.

In previous years, interest in the ESC final was even higher: when Lena won for Germany in 2010 with “Satellite”, there were even 14.7 million in front of the screens. The following year at the ESC in Düsseldorf, 13.9 million in Germany watched the live show.

Many of those who were not interested in the ESC on Saturday evening tuned in to an episode of the crime film series on ZDF – “Friesland – Landfugen” – at 8:15 p.m.: the broadcaster got a whopping 6.48 million crime thriller fans (25.5 percent). with it in front of the screen. 980,000 (3.8 percent) watched the US thriller “Unstoppable” (2010), starring Denzel Washington, on Vox.

On RTL, 760,000 (3.6 percent) viewers saw “Unforgettable – The secrets behind the most iconic RTL moments”. Sat.1 still attracted 720,000 (2.8 percent) interested people in front of the TV set with the Pixar animation film “The Incredibles 2”.

500,000 (2.1 percent) spent the evening with an episode of “9-1-1 Notruf LA” on Kabel Eins. 390,000 (1.5 percent) wanted to see the US feature film “The Saint – The Man Without a Name” from 1997 on ZDFneo.
