Rare find
One and a half meter long whale penis washed up on Bornholm
Beach cleaners on Bornholm usually find plastic or other garbage when cleaning the island’s beaches. Now they have come across a highly unusual find during their work.
On the Danish Baltic Sea island A whale’s penis, around one and a half metres long, has washed up on Bornholm. It was found near Snogebæk in the south-east of the island and most likely belongs to a dead humpback whale that washed up on the beach at Dueodde this summer.
The finders discovered the good piece during cleaning work on a beach, initially mistaking it for a giant sea serpent and brought it to the NaturBornholm adventure center, said Kenneth Nielsen from the center to the Danish broadcaster TV 2. Closer examinations then showed that it was a whale penis. With regard to the humpback whale that was found in Dueodde in July, one can now say with certainty that it was a male.
What do you do with a whale penis? First of all, the foul-smelling sexual organ goes into the freezer, as Nielsen said. Together with a whale researcher, a decision will then be made as to what will ultimately happen with the rare find.
