Loud music and a lot of pyrotechnics – that’s typical for Rammstein concerts. So made for a gig on New Year’s Eve.

Planning a New Year’s Eve party every year annoys many people. For Rammstein fans, that could be unnecessary this year. The band apparently wants to play a mega concert on the Theresienwiese in Munich on December 31st.

It could be one of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties of the year: As the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (SZ) reports, Rammstein is planning a New Year’s Eve concert on Munich’s Theresienwiese – with 145,000 fans. The city of Munich has recently received a request for this, according to the SZ.

According to the SZ, however, there is a second venue in the room: the site of the former “Zollverein” colliery in Essen. “Munich would be the first choice,” said economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU), who is also responsible for tourism in the city, to the SZ.

A show with a crowd puller like Rammstein would be a “wonderful opportunity” for the people of Munich and also for many tourists from outside, Baumgärtner continued. Baumgärtner doesn’t see the fact that in the weeks before the “Winter Tollwood”, a major event as an alternative Christmas market, also takes place on the Theresienwiese, as a problem. The space potential is evident year after year at the Oktoberfest. The area is large enough to allow both events to take place. Baumgärtner even hopes for synergy effects. “There would even be a lot of interaction possible.” Both events could benefit from each other, the CSU man hopes.

Baumgärtner hopes for moderate ticket prices

For years, Rammstein has been characterized by loud music and a lot of pyrotechnics at the live shows – just made for a New Year’s Eve. Both the cold weather and the high ticket prices that are usual for Rammstein concerts would hardly ensure that the fans stay at home if the concert actually takes place. Baumgärtner hopes that due to the immense number of spectators, currently almost 145,000 are planned, the ticket prices will be in a moderate range.

The city of Munich is probably planning a live stream of the concert for all fans who should not be able to get hold of one of the probably coveted tickets. The economics officer hopes for an “enormous advertising value” for the city of Munich.

Whether Rammstein will actually appear in Munich on New Year’s Eve should be decided in August. During the parliamentary summer break, three emergency sessions are scheduled for urgent issues, according to the SZ. If and when the Rammstein concert will be discussed is not yet clear.
