It’s a good thing that none of the even remotely noteworthy radio play awards have a newcomer category. Otherwise, the jury in question would hardly be able to avoid awarding such an award to the author Maxim Biller, 64, and the director Dominik Graf, 72. For both is No king in Israel after all, her first novel in the genre. However, because they are both among the best in this country when it comes to telling stories – truthful, irritating, clever, funny, evil, i.e. relevant stories – they almost inevitably develop an intense feeling for the special requirements and possibilities of the genre radio play. A newcomer award for both of them would be both logical and absurd.
