A group of young people are said to have attacked two Ghanaian children in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. An eight-year-old and her father were injured. This case is not the only one to cause horror this weekend.

Following the alleged racist attack on two Ghanaian children in The police have received various tips from Grevesmühlen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). These include information about people who may have been involved in the crime, a spokesman for the control center of the Rostock police headquarters told the German Press Agency.

The investigations are very extensive and will take some time. There were also indications that racist slogans were sung to the tune of Gigi D’Agostino at the town festival in Grevesmühlen (June 13 to 16).

According to police, an eight-year-old girl and her ten-year-old sister were attacked by a group of around 20 teenagers and adolescents on Friday evening at around 7:30 p.m. The attackers are said to have kicked the younger girl in the face, among other things. When the children’s parents arrived, an argument broke out with them, according to police. The eight-year-old and her father were slightly injured and taken to hospital.

When the officers arrived on the scene, one person from the group allegedly made racist insults to the victims as they left. Up to eight people from the group took part in the attack, the police said. They are now investigating for breach of the peace, grievous bodily harm, incitement and insult. The officers are looking for witnesses to the incident.

Horror after the case became known

Politicians condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms. “To insult children with racist slurs and to attack them brutally is evidence of stupid hatred and unbelievable inhumanity,” wrote Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) on X. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) said on the platform: “We must not allow hatred and incitement to poison our society and violence to threaten our children.” Her thoughts and sympathy are with the children affected and their families. “This heinous act must have consequences quickly. Racism and violence are disgusting. This is especially true when children are attacked.”

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD) stressed that “people are not attacked, especially not children, and certainly not for racist reasons.” Grevesmühlen’s mayor Lars Prahler told NDR 1 Radio MV, “This racially motivated act simply leaves me speechless. It shows bottomless hatred and uninhibited inhumanity and cannot be excused.”

The district administrator of North West Mecklenburg, Tino Schomann (CDU), spoke of an intolerable border crossing. “Despicable acts like these leave me speechless.”

Further incidents over the weekend in the Northeast

The police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reported several more incidents with a suspected racist or inflammatory background over the weekend. In Schwerin, a witness observed around 20 men giving the Hitler salute on the castle bridge.

After an altercation in which a man was injured in Penkun on Saturday night, the State Security Service has launched an investigation on suspicion of incitement. According to police, witnesses said that shortly before the incident, some people on a festival meadow had shouted the lyrics “Foreigners out – Germany for the Germans” to the tune of Gigi D’Agostino.

During the subsequent altercation, six to seven people are said to have attacked a 24-year-old German and injured his face. “The victim has a southern appearance, and a connection between the shouting of slogans and the crime cannot be ruled out,” the police said.

Already on Friday evening, there was a major police operation at the train station in Warnemünde following right-wing slogans after the German team’s European Championship kick-off.
