quoted. the Media Podcast: Reporting on Israel and Palestine – Media

A new episode of “quoted. der medienpodcast” deals with the question of how debates about the dispute in the Middle East are going and what role the German media play in this. Guest: Meron Mendel.

The Middle East conflict comes to a head; at the same time, hundreds of thousands of Israelis have been protesting against the new right-wing government for weeks. Plenty of reason for the media in Germany to report about it. What does this reporting look like? How are the media debates about the disputes between Israel and Palestine going and what role does Germany’s special relationship with Israel play in the reporting?

Communication scientist Nadia Zaboura and SZ author Nils Minkmar discuss this in the current episode of “quoted. der medienpodcast”. How the media negotiate these questions also shapes the relationship between citizens in the diverse society. Numerous people from the affected communities live in Germany and the Middle East conflict is the subject of many public controversies.

Guest: Meron Mendel, Israeli-German pedagogue, director of the Anne Frank educational center and author of the recently published book: “Talking about Israel. A German Debate”.

“quoted. the media podcast” is a cooperation between the CIVIS Media Foundation for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, funded by the Mercator Foundation.

Note: The recording took place before the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Germany. Contributions to this could not be considered.
