Director Quentin Tarantino has seen “Top Gun: Maverick” – and thinks the flying action is “fantastic”.

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino (59) is known to love cinema. However, like him, the director of “Pulp Fiction”, “Kill Bill” and “Django Unchained” is usually reluctant to judge the newly released works of his colleagues explained on the ReelBlend podcast. However, this restriction does not apply to a special hit film from the current year. The director icon “loves” the action film “Top Gun: Maverick” with superstar Tom Cruise (60) in the leading role, which was released in May. “I think, [‘Top Gun: Maverick’] was fantastic,” said Tarantino.

“Top Gun: Maverick”: Film spectacle and reminiscence to Tony Scott

The late sequel to the 1980s classic Top Gun is currently grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide. This makes “Maverick” the most successful film of the year so far. It is also the best-selling title in the long career of leading actor Tom Cruise. According to Quentin Tarantino, the flying action offers “a true movie spectacle” that he almost didn’t expect to see.

The two-time Oscar winner highlights another aspect of “Top Gun: Maverick” during his visit to the podcast. “Maverick” seems to him almost like a work directed by action expert Tony Scott, who died in 2012 and directed “Top Gun” in 1986. “The respect and love for Tony was in every shot,” said Tarantino. Joseph Kosinski (48), who took over the direction of Scott on “Top Gun: Maverick”, “did a great job”.
