Putzbrunn: Where to go with the campers? – District of Munich

Individually designed vacations, ideally with as little contact with other people as possible – that’s what makes traveling in a mobile home so appealing. And that’s why campers have experienced a boom in recent years, which has been given a further boost by Corona. The big problem, however, is that very few municipalities have enough parking spaces, so that campers often block parking spaces, much to the annoyance of local residents.

In Putzbrunn, this topic has often been an issue in the municipal council, so in 2021 the idea of introducing a parking license for mobile homes was had, but this plan was shelved again. An initiative by the Truma company, which specializes in equipping mobile homes, to create spaces for their own vehicles on a property and to offer the community parking spaces there for private campers on lease, ultimately fell through with local politicians.

In the citizens’ meeting, a citizen reported and complained that both front tires of her mobile home parked in Neubiberger Straße had recently been punctured by unknown persons. She asked Mayor Edwin Klostermeier (SPD) to start a new initiative for parking and also argued that Truma, one of the largest trade tax payers in the community, might be looking for another company location if no solution was found.

Truma denies emigration plans

A statement that Truma denied when asked: “We are not considering moving out of Putzbrunn,” said a spokeswoman. “The assumption of emigration is a mistake.” The company was only concerned with the possibility of realizing a mobile home parking space in Putzbrunn. After the cancellation, a different location is now only being considered for this parking lot, but not for the company.

Mayor Klostermeier replied to the resident during the citizens’ meeting that his hands were tied, he himself had voted in the municipal council to rent space, but was in the minority. The administration also started a survey among the population of Putzbrunn to see if anyone could make space available. “Only one person reported who would have had one or two places,” said Klostermeier. He knows many who simply left their campers at the side of the road. But if you want to be sure that there is no damage during the downtime, he only sees the chance to park mobile homes outside of the greater Munich area in special rentable parking spaces when the vehicle is not travelling.
