Emmanuel Macron estimated this Sunday, May 14 that Russia had begun a “vassalization” with regard to Beijing. The Kremlin denounces this assertion.

INTERNATIONAL – “Categorically disagree” with the position defended by Macron. The Kremlin denounced this Monday, May 15 the “misunderstanding” of relations between Moscow and Beijing on the part of Emmanuel Macron, after the French president had estimated that Russia was entering into “a form of vassalization with regard to China”.

“This approach is absolutely wrong and results from an absolutely wrong understanding of the essence of what is happening” between the two powers, castigated the spokesman of the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov. “Our relations with China are in the nature of a special strategic partnership”he assured.

In a newspaper interview Opinion published on Sunday, the Head of State had estimated that “Russia has already lost geopolitically” by carrying out a military offensive in Ukraine. “It has de facto started a form of vassalization with regard to China”he supported.

Union against the West

Dmitry Peskov, for his part, affirmed on Monday that the relationship between Moscow and Beijing was a matter of “taking into account mutual interests, mutual benefits, closeness in their worldviews, joint rejection of attempts to dictate (and) impose someone else’s opinion on the development of our country “.

For nearly 15 months, China has never publicly condemned Moscow’s military invasion of Ukraine, unlike the majority of major world powers. In mid-March, Chinese President Xi Jinping even went to Moscow for a much-noted summit with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, where the two leaders displayed their union with Westerners.

However, China this week sent an envoy to Europe to“a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis”. In addition to visiting Russia, Poland, France and Germany, Li Hui will be in Ukraine on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to kyiv.

Russia said on Monday it had intercepted a long-range Storm Shadow missile in the context of the conflict in Ukraine, just days after London announced the delivery of these weapons to Kiev forces.
