Pullach: Kerstin Holzer presents book about Monika Mann – Munich district

The Mann family is the most famous family of artists in Germany – a collection of difficult, ingenious, and often misfortune-prone personalities. The journalist Kerstin Holzer has now written a portrait of Monika Mann, the daughter of Grandmaster Thomas Mann, who was not only overshadowed by her talented siblings, but also had a difficult relationship with her mother Katia. “Monascella – Monika Mann and her life on Capri” is the title and it is the “story of a happy new beginning in the middle of life”. Holzer will present the brand new book for the first time on Thursday, November 17, in the Charlotte Dessecker library in Pullach in the series “Literature in the South – Being different/Anderssein”.

Based on previously unpublished letters, she tells of Monika Mann’s probably happiest years, of the self-discovery of a disregarded woman, her recognition as a columnist, of the great mother-daughter drama and the healing power of love. Holger Pils, who, among other things, managed the Buddenbrookhaus in Lübeck for several years, will moderate. As a lecturer at the University of Bamberg, he works primarily on the topics of contemporary poetry, Thomas Mann and the Mann family, literature mediation and the literary business. The event starts at 7 pm. Entry costs eight euros. Reservations are possible at 089/744 74 48 00 or [email protected].
