Essen: Senior doctor provokes with “unvaccinated” armband

Last week, a doctor with a yellow armband that read “Unvaccinated” appeared at the St. Josef Hospital in Essen-Kupferdreh. The clinic management has now responded.
On Friday, a senior physician at the St. Josef Hospital in Essen showed up at work with an “unvaccinated” armband and criticized the regulation that, as an unvaccinated person, he had to regularly present a PCR test, as reported by the “WAZ”.
The response from the clinic followed immediately: “We very much regret the incident,” said hospital spokeswoman Corinna Bach to the “WAZ”. she can be quoted further. “However, the place to express one’s protest is not acceptable and is not tolerated by the hospital management either.” The doctor took off the bandage “quickly”.
No compulsory corona vaccination, not even for doctors
There is of course no compulsory vaccination – not even for doctors in the clinic – and that is precisely why “the few unvaccinated employees are called upon to have themselves tested closely,” said Bach in the “WAZ”.
Meanwhile, the tense corona situation continues across Germany. With over 50,000 corona cases transmitted within 24 hours, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) only reported a peak in new corona infections on Thursday (Friday: 48,640). From a purely mathematical point of view, around 400 of these cases end up in the intensive care unit. Gerald Gaß, Chairman of the German Hospital Association (DKG), is therefore expecting a total of 4,000 corona patients in the intensive care units by the end of the coming week.
Vaccine picking
In addition to the so-called vaccination gaps – the millions of people who are still without vaccination protection – the diminishing effect of the vaccination is also a problem. This means: people who have been vaccinated can also contract the virus, which becomes more likely the longer it has been since the vaccination. It is true that in this case they are significantly less likely to become seriously ill than those who have not been vaccinated. Overall, however, this is also noticeable in the clinics. Currently, 36 percent of the over 60-year-old Covid cases in intensive care units are “likely vaccine breakthroughs”, reports the RKI.
