Prosecutors determined against the engine driver – Bavaria

After the train accident in Peiting, Upper Bavaria, the public prosecutor’s office in Munich II initiated investigations into endangering rail traffic. These are currently aimed at a train driver, said Matthias Enzler, spokesman for the prosecution. Whether the person concerned is at fault is completely open. It is currently not possible to predict how long the investigation will take, said Enzler. That is “certainly nothing that will be completed in the next few weeks”. It will probably be necessary to obtain technical reports to clarify the accident. On Tuesday morning, the train coming from Weilheim in the direction of Schongau derailed just before Peiting-Ost station, but no one was injured. According to an assessment by the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), which runs the route, the accident is probably due to a switch fault. The clarification of the cause is still ongoing, it said. The single-track line between Schongau and Peißenberg is closed until further notice. The BRB assumes a blocking for at least four weeks. A replacement bus service has been set up.
