FC St. Pauli is losing its promotion coach Fabian Hürzeler to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. This was reported by a transfer expert.

The change of coach Fabian Hürzeler’s move from Bundesliga newcomers FC St. Pauli to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion is apparently a done deal. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 31-year-old football coach has been given a contract on the English south coast until 2027. However, there has been no confirmation from the clubs so far.

For days now, numerous media outlets have been reporting on the impending transfer. Recently, the only thing that was discussed between the clubs was the transfer fee. Speculations suggest that the sum could be as high as nine million euros. That would be the highest transfer income in the history of the local club.

Hürzeler led Hamburg to the second division championship last season and thus back to the Bundesliga after 13 years. He was promoted from assistant to head coach in December 2022 as the successor to Timo Schultz. In March he had just extended his contract with FC St. Pauli – without an exit clause.

The Premier League eleventh-placed team was most recently coached by Roberto De Zerbi, who resigned after the previous season. Hürzeler once described him as his coaching role model.
