When Aminata Touré became Germany’s first black minister in Schleswig-Holstein, Doreen Denstädt joked: Now she only has second place. That was last June, Denstädt’s joke has now become serious. In an unusual move, the Thuringian Greens exchanged their two ministerial posts in the red-red-green state alliance in February. Denstädt – for a long time the only black policewoman in Bavaria – is to take over the department for justice, migration and consumer protection. The party executive decided against the will of the incumbent minister, Dirk Adams. He would probably like to stay.
