Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have christened their young son August. Before that, they had to cope with sad news: Brooksbank’s father has died.

It was an important day in the lives of Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank. Their son August was baptized on Sunday at All Saints Chapel in Windsor.

In the days before, however, the couple had to cope with bad news. Brooksbank’s father, George, died shortly before his grandchild’s big day. George Brooksbank contracted the coronavirus last year and even had to go to hospital for treatment. But apparently he was no longer healthy. “He hasn’t been doing well for a while. It was a difficult time for Jack, who lost his father before he was baptized,” a source told the Daily Mail.

Another source reported that it was a “miracle” that George Brooksbank survived the Covid infection at all, after even having to be plugged into a ventilator in April 2020. Even then, Eugenie and Brooksbank are said to have been told to “prepare for the worst”. Despite the sad news, Eugenie and her husband decided to have the baptism now as planned.

Queen attends double baptism

To the relief of the whole of Great Britain, Queen Elizabeth II was able to attend the double baptisms of Eugenie’s son and Zara Tindall’s youngest offspring, Lucas. In the past few weeks, the monarch had to cancel several appointments.

A month ago she was in the hospital for exams. Then there was talk of a sprained back. The doctors ordered her to rest. She even had to cancel her participation in the Remembrance Sunday commemoration last weekend. All the better for all Royal fans to see the Queen briefly on the drive to the baptism.
