Only around four million Brits watched
Only around four million viewers in Great Britain saw Prince Harry’s interview with broadcaster ITV on average.

The long-awaited Prince Harry interview appeared on ITV on Sunday, but British interest was limited.
The ITV interview with Prince Harry (38) watched an average of only 4.1 million viewers on Sunday evening in Great Britain. At its peak, 4.5 million Brits tuned in, writes the industry magazine “Deadline” citing TV data from overnights.tv. For comparison: In 2021, just under eleven million viewers followed the Oprah interview with him and his wife, Duchess Meghan (41), on ITV, which was then shown in parallel on the US broadcaster CBS.
Prince Harry’s ITV interview was therefore not even a winner on Sunday evening. This title was secured by the drama series “Happy Valley”, which gave the BBC an average of 5.2 million viewers around 10 p.m. German time. A little later, the US broadcaster CBS also broadcast an interview with Harry, two days before the release of “Spare” (German title: “Reserve”), the explosive autobiography of the prince. In addition, another TV interview with Harry was shown on “Good Morning America” on US television on Monday morning.

The conversation with the British broadcaster undoubtedly offered enough explosives. Among other things, Prince Harry remembers dealing with the death of his mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997). In the conversation, he says, for example, that he requested photos and the secret government file of the fatal car accident in Paris for his book “Spare” and describes his world of thoughts: “I think at that point I was looking for evidence that it really happened that it was true.” In the interview, he also remembers how his father, King Charles III. (74) who had brought him the news of his death and the funeral.
Prince Harry also denies that he and Meghan accused the royal family of racism in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey (68). “The British press has said that. Has Meghan ever mentioned ‘they are racists’?” There is a “difference between racism and unconscious bias”. Harry adds, “When you, as an individual or as an institution, recognize or have been made aware that you have unconscious bias, there is an opportunity to learn and grow from it… Otherwise, unconscious bias becomes racism.”
The royal couple had already caused a stir at the end of 2022 with the multi-part Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan”. On December 8th, the streaming service released the first three episodes of the documentary series. According to Netflix, the production alone accounted for more than 81.5 million viewing hours worldwide in the week of publication. The three more episodes followed a week later, clocking in at more than 97.7 million hours.
