In his book “Reserve”, Prince Harry unpacks about the royal family. Why the memoir is worth reading and where to buy the book.

The German edition of is officially published Prince Harry’s Book “Reserve” (Original: “Spare”) today. But it was already a topic of conversation before it was published, as parts of the book have already been made public. In Spain, the autobiography was accidentally available for a short time in some bookstores last Thursday and promptly caused the first scandal reports. In addition, Prince Harry fueled the discussions himself, as he gave two interviews beforehand.

What is already known from Prince Harry’s book

It is known so far: Prince Harry does not leave good hair on his brother William and reports, among other things, about a physical attack and a lot of competition. His father King Charles III. doesn’t come off well. But not only his own family, but also the British press is criticized in “Reserve”. Among other things, Harry reveals that if “royal insider sources” were quoted, this information would come specifically from the palace. He also describes very personal experiences: You can read about his first time or about his cocaine consumption.

But his goal is not to rant pointlessly against everyone, he is much more out for reconciliation, says Harry in the recently broadcast ITV interview: “I want my father back, I want my brother back, I don’t recognize her at the moment. ” It was important to him to show openly and honestly that his family was playing the wrong cards. Getting away from public expectations and manipulation in order to feel authenticity and feelings is important to him: “I’m sitting here and asking for a family,” Prince Harry continues in the interview. “Not an institution, not a family.” This should also become clear in the book of the 38-year-old. And it will certainly be a topic of conversation and discussion for a long time to come. He has already achieved this goal once.

Why it is worth buying “Reserve”.

For this reason alone it is worth getting your own picture and reading the memoirs. That Book by Prince Harry is certainly a relentless attack on the monarchy and reflects his very personal, subjective experiences and descriptions from his special position as an injured prince. Which, as some critics point out, should certainly also help to keep Harry and Megan in conversation and to make the public try to understand the decisions and statements of the two. However, these one-sided descriptions are important in order to get a holistic picture of the royal family, which in the past often only showed the public what the public wanted to see: a harmonious picture of an untouchable family.

The fact that this facade is currently crumbling is certainly largely due to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, who caused major fractures with various TV appearances and descriptions, but have also lost a lot of sympathy themselves because they sometimes overshot the mark. There may be some truth to some of the allegations, though, and help cast a more critical eye on the royal family. And only those who listen to all sides can finally come to a comprehensive opinion.

Whether you want to unreservedly believe and approve of all of Prince Harry’s descriptions and goals, whether you are uncompromisingly on the side of the royal family or whether you are neutral about the whole thing: the book is certainly worth reading either way. Whether it achieves its stated goal or not.
