Marrying a prince doesn’t automatically mean living in a castle. Duchess Meghan first had to learn this, because the Frogmore Cottage that was granted to her is said not to have been enough for her.

The Queen gave the couple permission to live at Frogmore Cottage for their wedding. According to the “Sunday Times”, the actress allegedly preferred to move into a very special castle.

For their wedding in 2018, the glamor couple received Frogmore Cottage as their residence from the Queen. A generous gift, even if it is only a gift, as the house is owned by the Crown Estate. Frogmore Cottage is the former staff house, is close to Frogmore House, where larger receptions are popular, and in the grounds of Windsor Park, where Windsor Castle is located. Windsor Castle is one of the Queen’s residences, where she preferred to spend Easter and weekends until her 80th birthday.

Around 775 rooms at Windsor Castle and none for Harry and Meghan

Windsor Castle is the largest continuously inhabited castle in the world. Reason enough that Duchess Meghan thought there was enough space for her family and offspring to also live in the castle. Harry is said to have appeared at the audience with the request for a future residence at Windsor Castle for an audience with the Queen, who, according to the newspaper, is said to have moderated this request as “inappropriate”.

The English writer and royal expert Hugo Vickers confirms that there are some empty rooms and wings in the premises at Windsor Castle, but that the Queen was “not amused” by the idea of a flat share. Traditionally, Windsor Castle will probably be passed on to the next king, Prince Charles, after the Queen’s death.

When the Queen gave Frogmore Cottage to the Sussexes, the property was in a less than regal state and in need of refurbishment. The couple renovated the home for over two million euros, but then decided to leave the country and the royal family for California. Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, currently lives in the property with her family.
