The air is getting thinner for Prince Andrew after a sex abuse lawsuit against him was cleared in the United States. Not only reputation and monarchy suffer, but also the finances. The duke needs money.
The British monarchy is in the greatest crisis since the death of Princess Diana: not only the departure of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan shook Buckingham Palace, the allegations of abuse against Prince Andrew cast a bad light on the Royal Family. Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit against the Duke of York has just been approved in the United States. And no matter how the case ends in court: The Queen will have to think of a solution for Andrew. In addition to losing his reputation and title, he has other worries: his finances.
Because one of the last options that are still available to him is an out-of-court settlement. A procedure not uncommon in the USA for civil actions in order to avoid a lengthy procedure. Guiffre, who accuses the prince of sexually abusing her when she was 17, could get up to five million pounds, observers estimate: inside. Money that the prince apparently does not have on the high edge.
Prince Andrew’s defeat in court means high costs
As the “Daily Mail” reports, he and his ex-wife are scraping millions together to be prepared for legal fees and possible compensation payments. After a quick search, Andrew is said to have found a buyer for his luxury property in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier. The family has been holidaying there for years, and he and Fergie bought the chalet in 2004 for £17million. Now the prince has apparently gotten rid of it.
Insiders have previously reported that the Queen is refusing to contribute to the costs of the trial. However, if millions of dollars are actually paid, she will probably have no choice but to buy her second eldest son free.
