Prices – UK inflation hits record high – Economy

Expensive food and energy have pushed UK inflation to its highest level in 41 years. According to the statistics office ONS, consumer prices in October were 11.1 percent higher than in the same month last year. This is the highest reading since October 1981. Economists polled by Reuters had expected an increase of just 10.7 percent, down from an annual inflation rate of 10.1 percent in September. According to the ONS, inflation would have climbed to 13.8 percent if the government had not capped household energy bills.
