Samuel Brunner (Gustav Schmidt) has already been in prison for five and a half years for a homicide when the accidental discovery of the corpse exonerates him. The experienced public defender Anna Notrup (Martina Gedeck) sees a chance for a retrial. Samuel himself is skeptical, and Anna understands why when she reconstructs the case and how it was handled in the remote Black Forest village. Unimpressed by the dismissive behavior of the locals, Anna exposes the sloppiness and prejudices of the investigations of the time.

In order to put a stop to the ruthless crime boss Mickey Cohen, the cop O’Mara (Josh Brolin) assembles a powerful team of police officers to fight organized crime. The wily dandy Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), the experienced sharpshooter Max Kennard (Robert Patrick) and his protégé Ramirez (Michael Peña), the wiretapping specialist Keeler (Giovanni Ribisi) and the upstanding Harris (Anthony Mackie) soon succeed Successes. But then one of them falls for the mistress of the mafia boss and endangers the future of the troupe.

At the weekly market, Ekki (Oliver Korittke) is attacked by a defaulting taxpayer. The witness Paul Schlächter (Wolfgang Maria Bauer) falls while trying to help Ekki and is slightly injured. Wilsberg (Leonard Lansink) takes him to the doctor Dr. Britta Lüders (Brigitte Zeh). She asks Wilsberg for help. Oliver Busch, a former patient, spreads lies about the doctor online. Wilsberg promises to look into the case. But when Wilsberg enters the apartment of investigative journalist and ex-junkie Oliver Busch, he is dead.

Oscar winner Christian Bale plays the role of the most famous bat in film history: as a young boy, Bruce Wayne sees his parents murdered and will be raised by his butler Alfred in the future. He goes to Asia, where Henri Ducard and Ra’s Al Ghul introduce him to martial arts. When he learns that Gotham City is going to be wiped out, he returns. Together with Alfred, he creates his image as Batman and hunts down the criminals in his hometown.
