US President Biden is addressing the unvaccinated with harsh words – and increasing the pressure: Millions of Americans will soon be required to be vaccinated. The Republicans criticized his plans even before the performance.

US President Joe Biden made no secret of his frustration: Although there has been more than enough vaccine for all Americans for five months – despite vaccination incentives and despite constant appeals – only 54 percent of the US population are fully vaccinated. 80 million Americans haven’t been piqued at all – a quarter of the population. “We were patient,” said the president. “But we’re slowly running out of patience. And your refusal has cost us all a lot.”

150,000 new infections a day

Almost 150,000 new infections a day, over 1500 corona deaths daily, overcrowded hospitals, in many states such as Texas and Mississippi almost no more intensive care beds: Biden left no doubt about who he blames: “The unvaccinated people overcrowd our hospitals, overrun ours Emergency rooms – leaving no room for people with a heart attack, pancreatitis or cancer. “

Because appeals are not fruitful, the president is now increasing the pressure: He issued a mandatory vaccination for all 2.1 million federal employees and all companies that work for the federal government. According to the White House, it is expected to come into force in two and a half months. Without proof of vaccination, there is a risk of disciplinary action, fines or the withdrawal of orders. “If you want to do business with the government, you have to vaccinate your workers,” said the president.

Vaccination or test in smaller companies

In the future, the following should also apply to private companies with more than 100 employees: Either the employees get vaccinated or they have to present a negative Covid test every week. To create an incentive, it should be possible to visit the vaccinator during working hours. “It’s not about freedom or personal decisions, but about protecting yourself and those around you.”

Without naming names and parties, the President criticized politicians who would deliberately undermine the fight against the pandemic: Instead of supporting vaccinations and wearing masks, they would rather order mobile hearse for the unvaccinated opera of the pandemic.

Biden also wants to hold on to the planned booster vaccinations – despite massive criticism from the World Health Organization. When exactly this third vaccination campaign will start, depends on the approval of the drug authority. In any case, the vaccine is ready.

500 million cans are to be donated

Biden’s chief medical advisor, Anthony Fauci, defended the plan. After all, the US has already donated more vaccine than any other country – and will provide another 500 million doses for poorer countries by the middle of next year. As long as both happen, there would be no problem, so Fauci on the station PBS.

The opposition Republicans criticized Biden’s plan even before he had even officially presented it: compulsory vaccination and testing for large companies was unconstitutional. Not the government, but each individual must decide whether to get vaccinated.
