A German international shoots Chelsea out of the crisis. The Premier League club spends a lot of money on a top talent from Ukraine.

Thanks to German national soccer player Kai Havertz, Chelsea have taken a small step out of the crisis.

The previously three Premier League games in a row without a win Blues struggled at home to a 1-0 (0-0) against London rivals Crystal Palace. Havertz scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute.

According to a media report, his future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain. According to information from the British “Telegraph”, several stars, including the 23-year-old ex-Leverkusener, could have to leave Chelsea next summer.

support for the coach

On the other hand, coach Graham Potter does not have to tremble for his job despite the recent crisis in London. The new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is not thinking about a change of coach, but about separating parts of the team if the results of the Champions League opponent Borussia Dortmund do not improve significantly.

Boehly’s predecessor Roman Abramowitsch had always sided with the players in times of crisis and changed coaches 15 times in around 20 years as Chelsea owner. This is said to no longer happen under Boehly, who replaced Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel with Potter shortly after the start of the season.

A lot of money for a top talent from Ukraine

The Blues are also trying to reduce their payroll expenses. The club announced the signing of 22-year-old Ukrainian top talent Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for up to €100m. Chelsea had previously signed David Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and – on loan from Atlético Madrid – Portugal international striker Joao Felix. According to the “Telegraph” report, professionals like Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic or the hapless Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could have to go – and possibly Havertz too.

In the round of 16 of the Champions League, the Londoners will first play Borussia Dortmund on February 15. The second leg will be played at Stamford Bridge on March 7th.
