Poverty report for Munich: One in six lives below the poverty line – Munich

The new poverty report clearly shows how differently the need is distributed in the districts. Social officer Schiwy doubts that the new citizen’s income will do justice to the higher costs in a metropolitan area.

Around one in six Munich residents lives below the poverty line. The number of people affected by income poverty in the state capital has hardly changed, as can be seen from the new poverty report that social affairs officer Dorothee Schiwy (SPD) will present to the city council on Tuesday. However, the figures are from 2021: According to them, around 266,000 people (17 percent of the population) lived below the poverty line, which is now 1,540 euros for single people.
