The criminal police searched the apartment of a postman in Schleswig. Apparently he had withheld hundreds of election notices.

According to the police, internal investigations at the post had shown that the Schleswig-Holstein had not delivered up to 700 election notifications in the area of the villages of Borgwedel and Stexwig (Schleswig-Flensburg district). As a result, Swiss Post filed a complaint against the employee at the beginning of September. On Tuesday, police officers paid the postman a visit to his apartment.

Hoarded boxes of letters

The officers found not only the missing election notices, but other boxes full of letters. It is probably a four-digit number, according to the police. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. According to a police spokeswoman, it is still unclear why the man did not deliver the mail – but the investigators do not assume a political motive. The municipality has now sent the voting notifications again.

Choice also possible without notification

In the municipality of Stockelsdorf (Ostholstein district), hundreds of voting notifications have also not been delivered. There, however, was a breakdown at the post office. State Returning Officer Tilo von Riegen emphasized that anyone eligible to vote could vote without the notifications. It is enough for him to identify himself at the polling station.

Likewise, the election documents are missing in Siek in the Stormarn district, postmarked August 30th and 31st.
