Post: Verdi announces nationwide strikes – economy

In the collective bargaining dispute at Deutsche Post, the Verdi union has called for nationwide strikes. The employees in all mail and parcel centers were called on Thursday at 5 p.m. and all day on Friday, Verdi said. “Further strikes will follow in the coming days.”

After the second round of collective bargaining between the Bonn-based group and the Verdi trade union also failed to produce any tangible results, Verdi negotiation leader Andrea Kocsis announced: “The employees in the companies will now give a clear answer and reinforce their demands with strikes.”

The union is demanding 15 percent more wages for the approximately 160,000 employees in Germany over a period of twelve months. Kocsis emphasized that the majority of Verdi members at Swiss Post have a low income and cannot cope with real wage losses.

Deutsche Post DHL is highly profitable. However, the focus of the business activity is abroad. She had repeatedly dismissed the demands of the German trade union as unrealistic.
