One day in the library, when Ivo van Hove was still a law student, he had a moment of epiphany that would determine the rest of his life. The Belgian looked at all the books around him and said to himself: “I was here yesterday, I’m here today, I’ll be here tomorrow. I don’t want to spend my whole life here.” It was in the third year of his studies, he could have graduated soon. Instead, to the dismay of his parents, he broke it off overnight, in the middle of the semester, just like that.
