Population development: Birth rate plummets – Health

The birth rate per woman in the member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has shrunk by about half over the past 60 years. While women in OECD countries gave birth to an average of 3.3 children in 1960, this figure was only around 1.5 children in 2022. The report “Society at a Glance 2024“ was published last week; in Germany, the presentation of the data was accompanied by a panel of experts.
