According to The Dauphiné Libéréa fire destroyed several vehicles parked near the Cavaillon police station, a town in Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The disaster, which occurred in the early morning, destroyed four vehicles, including three belonging to the police. The flames also affected two neighboring buildings, forcing the evacuation of several people.
Among the victims, two families had to leave their homes due to the smoke. The intervention teams reported that some people, slightly inconvenienced, were able to remain on site after verification.
An open investigation
The origin of this fire is currently undetermined, but authorities are investigating whether it could be linked to recent police operations in the city. Indeed, the Cavaillon police, with reinforcements from other towns, have recently intensified their actions to fight against illegal trafficking.
Arrests had taken place in the previous days, and this situation could be a response from the groups concerned. An investigation was entrusted to the organized and specialized crime division (DCOS) of Avignon to shed light on this incident. The amount of damage is currently being assessed.
